In 2009, a 3,200 square-foot research and engineering laboratory was constructed at the east end of the original FEC facility. The construction of the Lab Annex was funded through an Economic Development Initiative (EDI)-Special Project grant through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. It features office space, a conference room, an automotive bay complete with vehicle lift, and a test bay equipped with a full-chassis dynamometer and control room. The lighting grid in the Annex was designed with engineering needs, and is further enhanced through natural lighting.
Although the Annex is connected to the FEC’s parent building, it is self-contained, with a small coffee bar, utility sink and restrooms, as well as designated parking spaces.
