The Flagship Enterprise Center
is an innovative center for
education, business incubation,
technology transfer, and
training which supports the
economic development vision for
the City of Anderson, Indiana.
Created through a partnership
between
Anderson University and
the
City of Anderson, the
Flagship Enterprise Center (FEC)
serves as a small business
incubator and growth stage
business accelerator. Through
its client-specific Client
Support Program, the FEC helps
emerging companies to become
independently viable. Located at
I-69 and Martin Luther King
Blvd. (exit 22) in Anderson, the
FEC provides ongoing contact
with management consultants,
university researchers, student
mentoring opportunities and
access to capital. The FEC and
its partners seek to encourage
and nurture the entrepreneurial
spirit within the community. The
Flagship Enterprise Center is
both an educational and
technological incubator helping
businesses develop and
transition their technologies
into real world applications and
products in global markets. The
FEC is one of the largest such
Centers in Indiana.
“When we started this project
many years ago, we had high
hopes for success,” said Charles
Staley, president and chief
executive officer of the
Flagship Enterprise Center. “The
partnerships with government
agencies, the City of Anderson,
Corporation for Economic
Development, Anderson
University, Purdue University,
and the many dedicated business
and academic professionals have
expanded our horizons and future
opportunities far beyond our
original vision. What has been
achieved to date is truly
remarkable, and we are certain
that this investment will yield
continued job growth and
economic expansion for
generations.”
“A key objective is to assist
Flagship clients in their quest
to become independently viable,”
said Art Patterson, executive
director of the FEC. “The
Flagship is like intensive care
for startup companies. We bring
them in, assess their strengths
and weaknesses; look for ways to
leverage the strengths, and
address the weaknesses, and when
they become independently
viable, we graduate them. The
range of products and services
offered spans multiple fields of
expertise, including alternative
energy, distributed power and
advanced battery systems,
medical, information technology
and computers, manufacturing,
military defense equipment and
numerous business support
products and services.”
On behalf of the City of
Anderson and the Redevelopment
Commission, FEC also manages the
Anderson Business Incubator. The
Flagship Education Center is
currently being built and
classes are projected to begin
in fall of 2007. The Flagship
Enterprise Center in partnership
with the City of Anderson has
announced that it will construct
a new Flagship Accelerator on 8
acres of land directly adjacent
to I-69 and southwest of Remy,
Inc. within the Flagship
Business Park. The new facility
will support the needs of
incubator graduates and
qualified “early stage
companies” that are
transitioning to a permanent
location within Anderson and
Madison County. |
