For a number of years Altairnano has been developing groundbreaking materials to solve the issues plaguing conventional battery technology - high power and energy density, cycle life, weight, cost and the ability to perform in extreme temperatures – places where conventional batteries can’t go. Altairnano has developed a nano-structured lithium titanate battery electrode allowing the manufacture of a new generation of rechargeable batteries to address today’s power and energy hungry applications. These high power rechargeable lithium ion battery cells, batteries and battery packs, are now being built and tested in its Anderson, Indiana, facility for rapid design, prototyping and applications testing. Altairnano battery technology provides a unique combination of very high specific power and high specific energy relative to other conventional batteries currently used in what are called power applications – hybrid vehicles, power tools, UPS systems, and extreme-temperature military and aerospace applications. Its battery cells have demonstrated three-minute full recharge and more than 9,000 cycles of sequential three-minute, 100 percent, recharges and discharges. This compares to conventional batteries that charge in hours and have cycle life of less than 1,000 cycles. Altairnano’s batteries are able to start and run at minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit and function safely up to 480 degrees Fahrenheit. Can you imagine the possibilities
