New Chamber Leader Talks Up Region’s Opportunities
Kyle Morey admits he has no ties to the Anderson area except his new job as president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Anderson & Madison County.
But he likes what he sees.
“There’s a lot of opportunity to make a good, positive noise here,” Morey said during a welcome reception at Flagship Enterprise Park on Thursday. “You’ve got land, you’ve got resources, you’ve got people, but it’s the people, that’s what convinced me” to come to Anderson and Madison County. “They have hope the county can grow.”
Morey said he realizes that the county has had more than its share of economic struggle in the past couple of decades.
“One of the biggest challenges or hurdles would be the fact that in our county, one of the biggest cities is suffering in its brand right now,” he said of Anderson and the decline of General Motors plants here.
“OK, so we lost them. Let’s go on,” Morey said. “We have a premier incubator right here in Anderson,” he said of Flagship. “I see potential.”
Since taking over for Keith Pitcher, who retired as Chamber president after 13 years, Morey said that since Monday he has been to numerous events and made contacts with nearly 100 local business and civic leaders. “I’ve had an opportunity to develop relationships right away.”
Before taking the job here, Morey for several years was deputy director of One Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce, on the Indiana side of the Ohio River near his hometown of Louisville, Ky. He formerly worked with the chamber of commerce in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Morey said his wife, Denielle, and four children, expect to move soon from southern Indiana to Madison County.
