ABI Company Enters 5th Annual Taylor University Business Plan Competition

Anderson, Ind. — Anderson Business Incubator (ABI) client, Global Student Solutions (GSS), has entered the 5th Annual Business Plan Competition sponsored by Taylor University, the Grant County Economic Growth Council and the Innovative Network. GSS, established in 2008, is a nonprofit organization in the ABI that strives to help global students not only acclimate to but succeed in the U.S. educational system, subsequently increasing college retention rates and helping to stimulate the economy. Founder, Scott Martin, served as Anderson University’s Director of International Student Services for nine years before joining eight others to create GSS.

Student consultants through Anderson University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter have been working since September to give GSS a more sustainable business foundation, starting with the creation of a legitimate business plan. The consulting team, composed of five Anderson University students, has spent the last several months compiling information in order to help GSS better understand its mission and the market it operates in. Sophomore Heather Jo Douglas, a member of SIFE, says that she thinks GSS is a prime candidate for the competition, which is open to all start up ventures with less than $75,000 capital. “We’ve been aiding GSS in many different ways,” she says, “and we’re helping to make this innovative company even more sustainable and beneficial to its clients.”

Semi-finalists of the competition will be announced on February 23rd. The top three business plans will receive seed money for their ventures, with $7,000 going to the first place winner. Finalists will be announced the 28th of April and final presentations will be given the 7th of May.
